HRCP Says Current Situation Question Mark on Transparent Elections

If a democratic Pakistan is to be formed, free and fair elections must be held.

Co-Chairperson Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Munizae Jahangir says that there is a question mark on holding a transparent and impartial election in the current situation.

According to the details, the officials of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, while holding a press conference in Islamabad, said that if a democratic Pakistan is to be formed, free and fair elections must be held.

Munizae Jahangir further said that it is surprising that the papers of some candidates have been approved and some have been rejected. If the voter wants to vote for a particular person, he has the right to vote.

HRCP officials said that party workers are being arrested and forced to hold press conferences. Papers of officials of some banned organizations have also been accepted. In the current situation, there is a question mark on conducting a transparent and impartial election.

She said that apart from fair elections, the people are demanding the right to freedom of opinion. The atmosphere of the election is being eliminated. Due to such measures, the government that will be formed will remain in question. Transparency must be maintained if the credibility of the election is not to be affected.
