Royal Family Shares Heartfelt Message as Buckingham Palace Closes for Renovations

The farewell, held on Wednesday, marks the end of official state visits at the Palace until 2027.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have bid a formal farewell to the Amir and Sheikha Jawaher of Qatar, marking the last state visit to Buckingham Palace for several years.

The royal couple’s emotional message comes as the iconic palace prepares to close its doors for an extensive three-year renovation.

The farewell, held on Wednesday, marks the end of official state visits at the Palace until 2027.

This is due to the ongoing £369 million refurbishment, which began in 2017.

The palace’s social media accounts shared a new image of the King and Queen, expressing gratitude with the message, “Thank you for coming!”

A statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed: “This afternoon, The King and Queen bid Their Highnesses The Amir and Sheikha Jawaher of Qatar a formal farewell from Buckingham Palace.”

With the closure of the Palace, future state visits will take place at Windsor Castle instead.

As part of the refurbishment, King Charles has moved his private office from the north wing to the Belgian Suite, located on the ground floor of the palace’s west-facing Garden Wing.

This new office holds personal significance, as it includes the Orleans Room, the very room where King Charles was born on November 14, 1948.
