Saim Ayub to Miss Remainder of South Africa Test Due to Injury

Ayub has been in outstanding form, with three centuries and a half-century in ODIs, as well as a standout 98-run knock in T20Is.

Pakistan’s opening batter Saim Ayub will miss the rest of the second Test against South Africa after sustaining an ankle injury while fielding at Newlands, Cape Town, on Friday.

Ayub underwent X-rays and MRI tests, and his reports have been sent to specialists in London for further advice on treatment and his return to competitive cricket.

The injury occurred during the first session of the Test. The South African team, aided by centuries from Ryan Rickelton and Temba Bavuma, finished Day 1 at 316/4.

Ayub suffered the injury while attempting to field a relay throw after a shot by Rickelton. He stumbled and lost his balance, requiring medical attention before being taken off the field.

Though the full extent of the injury is still unclear, it poses a significant concern for Pakistan, who have a packed schedule ahead.

They will host the West Indies for a two-match Test series, followed by a tri-nation ODI series with South Africa and New Zealand, culminating in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

Ayub has been in outstanding form, with three centuries and a half-century in ODIs, as well as a standout 98-run knock in T20Is.

He was named Player of the Series in the South Africa ODIs and has been nominated for the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.
