The main opposition party Bangladesh Nationalist Party has boycotted these elections.

Dhaka ( The Daily Star report )

Sheikh Hasina-led ruling party Awami League is ready to strengthen its dictatorial grip in Bangladesh elections 2024.

The main opposition party Bangladesh Nationalist Party has boycotted these elections because Sheikh Hasina’s government arrested thousands of her political rivals and supporters.

The steps of Sheikh Haseena government were criticized by human rights groups as an attempt to paralyze the opposition ahead of the elections 2024.

In the eyes of many voters, the Awami League has won the election and there is currently no credible opposition candidate. Many fear that Sheikh Hasina’s continued fourth government could worsen economic conditions.

Voters turn out has remained 27 percent and people have no interest in Elections. Hasina Wajid, the eldest daughter of the country’s founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, came to power for the first time in the 1996 multi-party elections. She then faced defeat in the 2001 elections to Khaleda Zia-led BNP.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came to power for a second term in January 2009, and her party has since won two more consecutive elections in 2014 and 2019, but they have been accused of widespread rigging. Awami League has denied these allegations.
