Sindh Takes Urgent Action to Control Covid-19 and H1N1 Spread
The health department also emphasized the need to share information on symptoms and the importance of seeking timely medical care.
The Sindh Health Department has ordered immediate action to curb the spread of Covid-19 and H1N1 influenza, following an increase in cases during the cold weather.
In response to a recent report by Geo News about the rising cases of Covid-19 and H1N1, the health department has instructed all district health officers to implement preventative measures and strengthen surveillance.
Awareness campaigns will focus on preventive measures, such as mask-wearing, hand hygiene, and social distancing.
The health department also emphasized the need to share information on symptoms and the importance of seeking timely medical care.
A report from Geo News on January 18 highlighted that around 30% of patients with cold and cough symptoms in Karachi are testing positive for Covid-19.
Infectious disease specialist Professor Saeed Khan of Dow University Hospital noted that many individuals are also suffering from fever and respiratory infections, with some cases of H1N1 influenza.
The health department has urged district health officers to submit weekly reports detailing cases, interventions, and challenges to keep the situation under control.
Health Minister Downplays Concerns
In a separate statement, Sindh Health Minister Azra Pechuho reassured the public, stating there is no need for panic.
She explained that out of more than 100 individuals tested for Covid-19, only seven were positive, with symptoms similar to mild flu.
Covid-19 cases are now being treated similarly to seasonal flu, according to the minister.
