Thousands of Karachi Children Miss Polio Vaccination

Pakistan remains one of only two polio-endemic countries, alongside Afghanistan.

At least 92,628 parents refused polio drops for their children during Karachi’s seven-day polio eradication campaign, sources from the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) revealed.

The campaign aimed to vaccinate 2,194,900 children, but teams managed to administer polio drops to 1,918,966.

With 73 polio cases reported in 2024, health authorities stress the urgency of vaccination.

The Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme, in collaboration with the Expanded Program on Immunisation (EPI), continues nationwide efforts to curb the disease.

Pakistan remains one of only two polio-endemic countries, alongside Afghanistan.

Although cases had declined in previous years, a recent surge raises concerns.

The Polio Eradication Programme emphasizes that polio is a “paralysing” disease with “no cure,” and completing routine immunization is vital to protect children from this threat.
