Fault in Submarine Cable Fixed in Record Time: PTCL

"Now, there is no degradation of Internet services across the country," the PTA confirmed in a statement.

PTCL restores services promptly, PTA confirms no internet degradation in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) has successfully addressed the fault in the international submarine cable AAE-1, ensuring a swift resolution to the slow browsing issue experienced by users.

The company commended its teams for their tireless efforts and expressed gratitude to customers for their patience during the disruption.

Last week, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reported that internet services had been stabilized by incorporating temporary bandwidth into the system.

The interim arrangement addressed the service degradation caused by the fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable on January 2, 2025.

“Now, there is no degradation of Internet services across the country,” the PTA confirmed in a statement.

PTCL operates three major submarine cables connecting Pakistan to global internet networks: AAE-1, SMW-4, and IMEWE (India-Middle East-Western Europe).

Auxiliary connections from these cables land in Karachi, with SMW-4 and IMEWE reaching Hawksbay Beach and AAE-1 connecting at Clifton Beach.

Other operators also play a crucial role in maintaining Pakistan’s internet infrastructure.

Transworld Associates manages SMW-5 (South-East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe-5) and TWA-1, linking Karachi to the UAE and Oman.

Cyber Internet Services Ltd operates the ‘PEACE’ cable, which originates in China and reaches Europe after traversing Pakistan’s Misri Shah area in DHA Karachi.

These collaborative efforts underscore the importance of a robust network infrastructure to minimize service disruptions and maintain reliable connectivity.
