State Oppression at Numaish Sit-In: MWM Spokesperson

Observers have warned that such measures could escalate tensions and erode public trust in democratic institutions.

The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has strongly condemned the alleged state oppression during the ongoing sit-in protest at Numaish Chowrangi, Karachi.

The MWM spokesperson has accused the authorities of resorting to undemocratic measures, including the use of force, to suppress peaceful protestors demanding justice and accountability.

According to the MWM spokesperson, the government has attempted to disperse the gathering through intimidation tactics. “We are exercising our democratic right to protest against injustice. However, the authorities have responded with threats, force, and unwarranted arrests.

Eyewitnesses reported a heavy police presence at the site, with several incidents of physical altercations and detentions. Protesters claim that water cannons and tear gas were used in an attempt to disrupt the peaceful demonstration. “We came here to demand justice, not to face state brutality,” said a protestor who witnessed the events.

The MWM leadership has called for immediate intervention from human rights organizations and civil society to ensure the protection of the demonstrators.

They emphasized the need for dialogue instead of coercion, urging the government to address their demands rather than resorting to suppression.

The ongoing protest has caused significant disruptions in the area, leading to traffic congestion and inconvenience for commuters. “Our struggle is for the future of our community and the safety of our children,” said one organizer.

As the situation unfolds, political and social circles have expressed concern over the state’s handling of the protest.

Observers have warned that such measures could escalate tensions and erode public trust in democratic institutions.

The MWM’s stand highlights a broader struggle for the right to dissent and the importance of addressing grievances through peaceful and constructive means.

The coming days will reveal whether the authorities opt for reconciliation or continue on a path of confrontation.
