Chairlift Rescue Operation under way in Butgram district

A chairlift has been stuck between two mountains since 6 am after the rope of the chairlift broke in UC Batangi Pashto of Tehsil Alai of Butgram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 6 school going children and 2 teachers are trapped in the chairlift.

Sling team of SSG, helicopters of Pakistan Army Aviation are participating in the rescue operation to save these 8 persons. Due to strong winds in the area, the operation has become very difficult. Diminishing light over time can make problems worse.

GOC SSG has left to supervise the rescue operation. He will directly supervise the rescue operation. Extreme caution is being taken in the rescue operation, various options are being considered to continue the operation in the dark of night.

Pak Army will continue the rescue operation even in the night. The chairlift has three ropes, two of which are broken. Locals use the lift to move from one mountain to another.

The place is four hours away from the district headquarters and the road in the hilly area is also very bad.

On the direction of the district administration, two rescue teams from Tehsil Alai and the district headquarters have been dispatched to the spot and the people trapped in the lift are still safe.

PDMA has released the details regarding the Butgram chairlift incident and said that the incident of 8 people getting stuck in the chairlift in Pashto area took place at 8:30 am. The chairlift is installed on Jahangiri Khor, a rainwater channel in the middle of the mountains.

Among the 8 people trapped in the chairlift are Abrar, Irfan, Gul Faraz, Osama, Rizwanullah, Attaullah, Niaz Muhammad and Shernawaz.

According to PDMA, the chairlift is located at an altitude of about 2,000 meters. A boy had a heart problem, he was unconscious for three hours

Gulfraz, a student stuck in the lift, while talking to Geo and Jang News, said that they had been stuck in the lift for six hours, strong winds were blowing around there.
