BTS’s Suga driving while intoxicated takes a positive turn

After an e-scooter DUI arrest, BTS's Suga gets out of jail with a fine: Case closed.

Suga, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, has only been spared a fine and no jail time after his e-scooter DUI incident.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, on Tuesday, September 10, the BTS member received a summary order, which means prosecutors closed the case with the necessary fines without proceeding to trial.

“We gave the summary order according to our operational standards, although they did not disclose the amount of the fine,” a prosecution official told reporters.

According to the outlet, under South Korean law, drunk drivers with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08 percent face one to two years in prison or a fine of between 5 million won ($3,719) and 10 million won may be encountered.

For levels above 0.2 percent, fines can range from two to five years in prison and fines from 10 million won to 20 million won.

Suga, investigated for driving an e-scooter while drunk in central Seoul on August 6, with a blood-alcohol level of 0.227 percent, nearly three times the legal limit for license revocation.

The rapper  suga apologized to his fans and following a day later, and on August 23, he was called to the Yongsan Police Station where he again expressed his regret.

Min Yoon-gi, known professionally by his stage names Suga and Agust D, is a South Korean rapper, songwriter and record producer. Under Big Hit Entertainment, he debuted as a member of the South Korean boy band BTS in 2013.
